Nikon at the Statue of Liberty

June 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

While I was walking around the Statue of Liberty (Did you know you can’t go inside without making a reservation 2 weeks out?) there was a stand set up along the path with 3 or 4 young ladies taking pictures (for a fee of course) of tourists at the statue. They were using D40’s! (I think… all those new little ones look the same to me… ) So I told them that I was taking pictures for Nikon and wanted to take their picture to show that Nikon represents at the Statue of Liberty. They didn’t speak english very well so I don’t even know if they understood me. But here are the two snaps I took…

Nikon at the MTV Movie Awards

June 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

While watching the MTV Movie awards just now I saw a familiar glimpse of yellow on black. I had to rewind the DVR (is it still called rewinding or just going back in time or what?) and yep! There it is! At 43 minutes in just after Will Smith accepted his award for Best Male Performance for I Am Legend… A photog sporting two D3’s.

There was a photog next to him with a barely visible Canon strap also. But the Nikon straps were in full view in all their glory.

I found some shots on Flickr… You only see a back to side profile but could I have just lucked out and found out who it was? Is it Chris Pizzello? Chris if you are out there can you confirm this for me?

GPS for D200 / D300

May 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So I’ve been looking at GPS units for the D300 because you know you can plug a GPS into the D300 and it will record the GPS data in the metadata. You have some choices.. Nikon’s offering is the MC-35 cable. Ya know something.. too much cable.. too much bulk for me.. and it doesn’t include the GPS! You have to buy a PS and then a serial cable to connect to the MC-35. There are some other options such as Dawn Technologies di-GPS line, and the Solmeta GPS line. These options are in the $250+ neighborhoods.

So I found some mention of the Geomet’r GPS in some of the forums (either Nikonians or DPReview). So what makes this one so special? Well… honestly… the price. At $129 on Amazon it is within my reasonable range for testing. Everything has pro’s and con’s. This one’s pro is the price and simplicity. Plugs into the existing port on the D300 and draws it’s power from the D300. The con’s are that you can’t use a shutter release cable when using the GPS. It plugs into the same port. Most of the other options mentioned above have a pass-through port of some sort. The MC-35 lets you plug a standard D300 cable release into the unit. The Solmeta and Dawn Technologies units let you plug a Canon or other third party shutter release into it (one even comes with the shutter release cable!).

I ordered the Geomet’r cable so I will let you know what I find out after using it for a while.

Nikon D3 vs Canon 1DS MkIII Camera Sounds

May 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This guy cracks me up! Maybe it is just his British accent but he puts the D3 up against the 1DS MkIII in continuous mode.

Nikon D300 vs. Canon 40D Video

May 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Oooh he has a cool Pelican Case…. Ok so that’s not why I looked at this video… Hell I didn’t even know about the Pelican case when I pulled up the video. So this video was a why by the D300 over the 40D.
